Public information "Kawahara"

Every month, the Kawahara Town Office in Tottori Prefecture publishes "Kawahara," a publicity paper for Kawara Town. "Public information Kawahara" has been selected as a "Special Choice" for five consecutive years at the Tottori Public Relations Contest, and has been well-regarded for its paper making since it was "selected" for three consecutive years from 1999 at the national convention.

Mr. Yuki Higashida, Planning Dowa Countermeasures Section, Kawahara Town Hall, who produces the "Public information Kawahara", talked about "Public information Kawahara" and "LETS".

"Public information Kawahara" is a love letter for everyone in the area.

"Public information Kawahara" has been converted to DTP since 1998. It was the first time for me to create a demanding public relations paper that would serve as a conduit between the residents and the government. Moreover, it was my first experience to switch from the conventional paper layout to DTP.
Even now, the monthly publication of public relations papers is still a mess, but what I learned in that context is the importance of typefaces. What I always keep in mind when making public relations paper is to create a paper that is easy to understand and familiar.

In any case, the administration has a “hard existence” and a “stiff image” for the residents who are the customers. In addition, if the public relations paper issued is “Edo-era-style handwriting”, you will feel the distance from the government even more. Therefore, I think that the role of public relations in public offices is to develop a more interesting page by expressing difficult "administrative words" and plain "administrative documents" in expressions that can be understood by residents. I will.
In addition, when words have regional characteristics such as dialects, and when ambiguous expressions peculiar to Japanese are replaced on paper as "words", not only sentences but also "typeface selection" plays a role in conveying delicate expressions. ..

I always think when interviewing, but I feel that it is important to choose a document that expresses the feelings received from the residents and a typeface that conveys the atmosphere. To do that, you need to have the width of the text and the typeface to express it. Changing the typeface makes the text easier to read, and also gives different impressions to the readers. From that point too, I feel that the benefits of introducing "LETS" that can use abundant typefaces are great.

“LETS” is attractive because it has a wide variety of fonts and high quality, and can be introduced at low cost.

This time, when I learned about the "LETS" program when I renewed the machine in the DTP environment, I was surprised at the image that "typefaces are things I should buy until now!" There were examples of annual lease contracts for PCs and copiers for DTP editing, but it was unimaginable that many typefaces could be used under annual contracts.

It is a sad point of the public relations department of the public office that it is difficult to quickly get upgrade costs etc. with the typeface in the Packaging once purchased and the limited budget amid the accelerating change in the DTP environment. .. Until I got a budget, I made a paper with a cramped feeling that I had to continue to use the existing typeface for a long time. I was attracted by the service that allows not only us but also LETS members to grow LETS together. I'm really looking forward to the release of new fonts and improved services.

However, it's good to use the "LETS" DTP font environment Support program with peace of mind. Among the abundant typefaces, it makes you feel like you can freely create a paper that "you can find something that matches your image." I also like the system where new typefaces are sent even if you don't request them.

OCF / CID / OpenType fonts are Packaging in the "LETS" program. At present, "PR Kawahara" mainly uses OCF fonts because of the printing company, but when the printing company supports CID fonts and OpenType fonts, this environment can be switched immediately according to that. Is safe.

For me, "Public information Kawahara" is a love letter for everyone in the community. I believe that if you make a paper while keeping in mind the readers, you can always do good things.

I'm looking forward to the “LETS” that supports it.
