REN FONT has been steadily building up a track record, having been selected for the typeface category of the "Yearbook" exhibition, organized by the NPO Japan Typography Association. REN FONT was founded in 2001 to bring a breath of fresh air to the font industry.
The handwritten-style fonts created by REN FONT type designer Kazuo Kanai have been highly praised by professional designers and typographers.
Except for the general typeface "Waon", our company has been creating "kana fonts" that are traditional typefaces, especially Mincho and Gothic. Most of them are multi-weight typefaces. There is a reason for this.
It is said that both kana characters account for around 70% of Japanese text. Even so, kana fonts alone have little reason to exist. It is only when they are combined with kanji that they acquire meaning and are breathed life into.
Most font vendors offer seven to nine weights ranging from "light" to "ultra". However, there is no clear standard for Weight of each weight, and it is up to each vendor's judgment. Therefore, even "light", for example, has slightly different Weight. Kana fonts need to be able to respond to this and come to life with a fine weight range.
That is the reason why our kana fonts have a fine range of weights. Fortunately, Fontworks LETS has a large selection of excellent Mincho and Gothic fonts. The look of a font can be richly changed just by changing the kana. We hope you will make good use of our kana fonts and enjoy creating composite fonts to your liking.
