Exhibition summary

Nowadays, DTP is the norm for producing printed materials, but until the 1970s, the work of analog designers (manual work) was performed by designers, typesetting operators, masters, and platemakers.
When microcomputers and personal computers were introduced in the 1980s, it was a system exclusively for Japanese language, which was developed based on the technology cultivated in the analog era, such as phototypesetting, blockmaking, and platemaking.
However, DTP (English localization), which came from the other side of the sea, was a different thing because there were few intersections with the Japanese dedicated system.
This time, I thought that knowing the past analog and Japanese dedicated system would be a hint to think about the future of digital and DTP, so I planned this exhibition.
This exhibition presents a dark river that separates the Japanese language system from DTP, and the content of the transition from analog to digital can be seen at a glance.
There is also an exhibition of the Morisawa MC-6 type, the Morisawa computer input calibrator, and the MK-110, which is a manual typesetting machine in which the gears rotate around in a rustling sound. Please feel it and experience the work done at the time.
