Fontworks releases elegant and dynamic new typeface "Tsukushi F Vintage Mincho RT" and adds two weights of Gothic typeface "TsukuOldGothic"

press release

Fontworks Inc. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO: Hisahiro Shimizu, hereinafter referred to as Fontworks) released Fontworks Tsukushi F Vintage Mincho RT (Regular Thin), a Japanese typeface created by Fontworks' typeface design director Shigenobu Fujita, on Wednesday, January 22, 2025.

Also on the same day, new weights L (Light) and EL (Extra Light) will be added to Fontworks TsukuOldGothic, a Japanese font popular in a wide range of genres including books.

About the new font, Tsukushi F Vintage Mincho

Tsukushi F Vintage Mincho, the fourth typeface in the Fontworks TsukuVintageMin series, is a Mincho typeface based on the three keywords "delicate," "dynamic," and "elegant."

The thin parts of TsukuVintageMin Mincho Kanji have been processed to look thinner and finer, expressing delicacy. In addition, the kana design in the handwritten pen form expresses the dynamism of handwriting, while the firm form and thin, long, flowing strokes express elegance. There are two types, S (small) and L (large), depending on the size of the characters.

Please use it in various scenes such as book covers and posters.

TsukuVintageMin Series (4 types)

S (small) has a wider spacing between the letters when typeset, while L (large) has standard spacing.

Katakana: Unique and elegant

Another feature of Tsukushi F Vintage Mincho is the unique opening of the horizontal strokes of the katakana. While the opening of most standard Mincho fonts is angled at about 45 degrees, this typeface is smoother and gives the impression of being rigid, like the horizontal strokes of kanji. When used in a sentence, it creates a unique visual effect that has never been seen before. The attractive, free-flowing strokes of this typeface are also present in the left halves of the katakana, and Type Designers Shigenobu Fujita, who created it, says, "This is the most elegant katakana among all of Tsukushi."

Gorgeous and elegant accompanying Roman characters

The attached Roman characters of Tsukushi F Vintage Mincho are characterized by their gorgeous elegance. The two characters "W" and "w" are equipped with alternate fonts with strong curls. They can be used according to the purpose.

In addition, the accompanying Roman text of this book includes small capitals* in the italic accommodation section.

TsukuOldGothic, 2 new weights added

On the same day, two new weights, EL (Extra Light) and L (Light), will be added to Fontworks TsukuOldGothic.

TsukuOldGothic is a completely new typeface designed by Shigenobu Fujita in 2014, imagining the gothic fonts that existed in the age of metal type. The tight space between the kanji and kana characters, the relaxed strokes, and the rich intonation that evokes the brush strokes speak the words with dignity.
Following the release of R (Regular), M (Medium), D (Demi Bold), and E (Extra) in September 2024, EL and L have now been added, bringing the family to a total of eight weights.
