In embedded devices such as game consoles, home appliances, IoT devices, in-vehicle devices, medical devices, e-books, printers, multi-function peripherals, digital cameras, video cameras, and in-vehicle devices, the font data is traditionally light and takes a lot of time to draw. It was common to use bitmap fonts that have a light load on the CPU and memory. However, in recent years, along with the higher definition of displays, there is a tendency to attach importance to user interface design design such as the beauty of characters displayed on the device. Therefore, in high-specification embedded devices, the adoption of outline fonts that can draw multiple display sizes such as enlargement/reduction with a single font and display beautiful characters is becoming widespread.

On the other hand, depending on the medium/low capacity embedded device, there are severe restrictions on the resources that can be installed. Therefore, there is also the problem that the installed fonts must be limited to low-capacity fonts.

In response to the demands and issues of fonts installed in today's embedded devices, Fontworks has prepared two types of lightweight fonts that are beautiful and have low capacity.

Since "Type-S" is provided in TrueType format, there is no need for a font engine to display, and scalable and beautiful display is possible regardless of the drawing area of the device. You can easily unify the character design on multiple devices such as "wearable devices" and "smartphone apps" that work together with them.

The second is the lightweight font "Type-XS," which is a lightweight font with a smaller capacity. The font capacity has been reduced to approximately 1/4 of the basic outline font.
