"Typography Award presented by Fontworks x ViViViT"
In July, we held a student-only typography competition to commemorate the launch of the LETS service for students. We would like to introduce this behind-the-scenes and award-winning works.
This award was born as a collaboration project with Vivibit Co., Ltd., which operates ViViViT, a portfolio matching service specializing in designers.
The application condition is to use Fontworks LETS!
Anyway, from the desire to have students come into contact with "fonts" and actually experience LETS, the application condition is "Students registered with ViViViT and works using Fontworks LETS fonts. Only "Post".
Mr. Harada, President and CEO of our company, Mr. Sekiguchi, "Uncle Font" of SB Technology Co., Ltd., and Mr. Tanaka, CCO of Vivibit Co., Ltd., participated as judges.
And for the award, we prepared the following and solicited works for about one month from July 28th to September 5th.
・ Grand prize (1 person): Prize money of 100,000 yen and 1-year usage right of "Regular Edition Fontworks LETS (equivalent to 49,500 yen)" used by professionals
・ Excellence Award (2 people): Prize money of 50,000 yen and 1-year usage right of "Regular Edition Fontworks LETS (equivalent to 49,500 yen)" used by professionals
・ Participation prize: One year usage right of "Fontworks LETS for students" to all those who posted the work
At first, will students make works using Fontworks fonts in the first place? I was worried about it, but despite such concerns, I received 87 entries that far exceeded our imagination!

All the works were of a very high level, and above all, they were very student-like and flexible, and I was impressed by the fact that they freely used fonts to create their works.
Initially, there were only grand prizes, excellence awards, and participation awards, but there are many wonderful works, and Fontworks Special Awards will also be newly selected.
And the one that was selected for the grand prize from 87 works ...
Grand Prize: Moji archipelago all over Japan. ～ For Travel ～ by Motoki Iwai
It is a work that captures the "likeness" of 47 prefectures and expresses a map of Japan in all different fonts. It was a work that shines with a sense of font selection expressed only by the design of hiragana, and unanimously won the grand prize!
Next is the work of the Excellence Award (2 people) and the Special Award (1 person).
Excellence Award: Sleeping Man by Mihoko Arai
This work of coined font. The powerful font atmosphere of "Matisse" and the clean and simple composition that is transmitted by a straight ball. Everything fits perfectly into the "sleeping man".
Excellence Award: THE EARTH by Harumi Fukuda
"THE EARTH" is a highly harmonious combination of letters and the atmosphere of the work. It was highly evaluated that "Kanji" was expressed well.
Fontworks Award (Special Award): Denshino Ongaku by Mitsuaki Nakano
The last is a newly added special prize. It is a wonderful work that gives the illusion that "Denshino Ongaku" is flowing in BGM with the font expression of only geometric katakana.
