Learn fonts from an engineering perspective

A new series, ``Learning from zero to Ken's ``The mechanism of fonts'', has started on the Fontworks official note. Together with Ken, who is a veteran engineer at Fontworks, commonly known as "Nushi", we are planning to learn about the "mechanism of fonts" from scratch and deliver it.

According to him, in order to understand fonts accurately, it is necessary to understand them from the three perspectives of "character", "design", and "software". It seems quite long ahead, but what is the first "character"? I will start with the fundamental question.
