Review of the work and competition

There were 17 athletes from all over Japan participating in this competition. Among the players, there are various participants such as high school students, players who have participated continuously since the last time, and high school students.

The competition task is to combine the "Fair Trade" and the cafe culture of the venue, Nagoya, in order to promote the fair trade products. The Event logo mark, product Packaging label design, and poster design are completed in 5 hours. It was a presentation by myself.

We asked the players to use Japanese fonts and European fonts provided Fontworks Inc. From among the many fonts, the players chose the one that suits their design.

The players felt that their expressions were improved with their expressions such as combining each font with colors and other elements, and at the same time, it was a wonderful tournament that will further improve the skills of young people in the future. I feel like there is.

Reasons for selecting competition fonts

Most of the athletes who participate in graphic design jobs are students, and they are required to submit multiple designs within the limited time of 5 hours. It may take too long to decide which font to use for the design if the whole set of fonts from Fontworks is used in the competition, so this time, in addition to Japanese fonts, we will select European fonts from “Monotype LETS”. It was. The fact that English is used for the manuscripts used in the design since the previous competition also contributed to the reason why we chose the Western font.

Fonts are a very important element in graphic design. Sometimes it's used for readability or to express design Styles in typeface, or as a base for logotypes, all the selected fonts are basic and simple, and most professional graphic designers have seen them once.

Many of Fontworks' fonts are unique and attractive, and it is tempting to put them in the selection process at the time of selection, but it is important to evaluate the skills of the players in the competition. Is one of the reasons for choosing a simple font.
