Fontworks Inc. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo, Representative Director, President and CEO Ai Harada, hereinafter referred to as Fontworks) will be held on Friday, November 10, 2023 by Monotype Co., Ltd. (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, Representative Director Fuminobu Sato, hereinafter referred to as Monotype). We will be participating in "Monotype+ 2023" (Aoyama, Tokyo), an offline seminar on typeface design and branding.

About Monotype+

Event "Type&", which Monotype has held for the past 10 times, has been renamed and restarted as "Monotype+". We will explore the possibilities of typefaces for companies and brands more than ever before and evolve into Event that can provide solutions.

Fontworks will become a member of the Monotype family from September 2023 and will be participating in this Event from now on.

Event summary

The theme for this first event is "Typography matters."​

Typefaces play a huge role in conveying your brand's personality and message. When launching or rebranding a brand, we will use company case studies to explain the factors to consider regarding typefaces.

On the day, there will be a session about projects handled by Monotype with Mr. Tomoaki Furukawa, director and public relations manager from Mitsui & Co., Ltd., Mr. Kashiwa Sato, one of Japan's leading creative directors, and Mr. Akira Kobayashi, Monotype's creative type director. Works typeface design director Shigenobu Fujita and developer leader of the web font service "FONTPLUS" Takeshi Suzuki will also be on stage.

“Fontworks × Monotype” Shigenobu Fujita/Akira Kobayashi
Fontworks Shigenobu Fujita and Monotype Akira Kobayashi will introduce the typefaces and projects they have created so far. A session that allows more people to feel that Japanese and European fonts are familiar to them. We will talk about the importance of typefaces in visual communication and brand image building.

“Current Location of the Web and Typography” Takeshi Suzuki (Fontworks)
Web fonts, which have been around for 25 years, are now an indispensable part of web design. We will introduce the latest developments in web typography technology, which has enabled richer expressions, along with the efforts of the web font distribution service FONTPLUS.

“Learning about brand creation from corporate examples” Tomoaki Furukawa/Kashiwa Sato/Akira Kobayashi
As the times change dramatically, companies need to grow through various phases. As a guest speaker, Kashiwa Sato, one of Japan's leading creative directors who has been working on corporate branding for Mitsui & Co., Ltd. since 2014 as a brand project, will unravel the concept of branding through a project with Monotype. In the second half, Mr. Tomoaki Furukawa and Mr. Akira Kobayashi, public relations manager from Mitsui & Co., will also participate and discuss the project while looking back on it.
